Load SAP Ariba Source Data to a Database Using Embulk

Embulk is an open source bulk data loader. When paired with the CData JDBC Driver for SAP Ariba Source, Embulk easily loads data from SAP Ariba Source to any supported destination. In this article, we explain how to use the CData JDBC Driver for SAP Ariba Source in Embulk to load SAP Ariba Source data to a MySQL dtabase.

With built-in optimized data processing, the CData JDBC Driver offers unmatched performance for interacting with live SAP Ariba Source data. When you issue complex SQL queries to SAP Ariba Source, the driver pushes supported SQL operations, like filters and aggregations, directly to SAP Ariba Source and utilizes the embedded SQL engine to process unsupported operations client-side (often SQL functions and JOIN operations).

Configure a JDBC Connection to SAP Ariba Source Data

Before creating a bulk load job in Embulk, note the installation location for the JAR file for the JDBC Driver (typically C:\Program Files\CData\CData JDBC Driver for SAP Ariba Source\lib).

Embulk supports JDBC connectivity, so you can easily connect to SAP Ariba Source and execute SQL queries. Before creating a bulk load job, create a JDBC URL for authenticating with SAP Ariba Source.

In order to connect with SAP Ariba Source, set the following:

• API: Specify which API you would like the provider to retrieve SAP Ariba data from. Select the Supplier, Sourcing Project Management, or Contract API based on your business role (possible values are SupplierDataAPIWithPaginationV4, SourcingProjectManagementAPIV2, or ContractAPIV1).
• DataCenter: The data center where your account's data is hosted.
• Realm: The name of the site you want to access.
• Environment: Indicate whether you are connecting to a test or production environment (possible values are TEST or PRODUCTION).

If you are connecting to the Supplier Data API or the Contract API, additionally set the following:

• User: Id of the user on whose behalf API calls are invoked.
• PasswordAdapter: The password associated with the authenticating User.

If you're connecting to the Supplier API, set ProjectId to the Id of the sourcing project you want to retrieve data from.

Authenticating with OAuth

After setting connection properties, you need to configure OAuth connectivity to authenticate.

• Set AuthScheme to OAuthClient.
• Register an application with the service to obtain the APIKey, OAuthClientId and OAuthClientSecret.

Automatic OAuth

After setting the following, you are ready to connect:

APIKey: The Application key in your app settings. OAuthClientId: The OAuth Client Id in your app settings. OAuthClientSecret: The OAuth Secret in your app settings.

When you connect, the provider automatically completes the OAuth process:

1. The provider obtains an access token from SAP Ariba and uses it to request data.
2. The provider refreshes the access token automatically when it expires.
3. The OAuth values are saved in memory relative to the location specified in OAuthSettingsLocation.

Built-in Connection String Designer

For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the SAP Ariba Source JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

Load SAP Ariba Source Data in Embulk

After installing the CData JDBC Driver and creating a JDBC connection string, install the required Embulk plugins.

Install Embulk Input & Output Plugins

1. Install the JDBC Input Plugin in Embulk.

2. In this article, we use MySQL as the destination database. You can also choose SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Google BigQuery as the destination using the output Plugins.

With the input and output plugins installed, we are ready to load SAP Ariba Source data into MySQL using Embulk.

Create a Job to Load SAP Ariba Source Data

Start by creating a config file in Embulk, using a name like saparibasource-mysql.yml.

1. For the input plugin options, use the CData JDBC Driver for SAP Ariba Source, including the path to the driver JAR file, the driver class (e.g. cdata.jdbc.saparibasource.SAPAribaSourceDriver), and the JDBC URL from above
2. For the output plugin options, use the values and credentials for the MySQL database

After creating the file, run the Embulk job.

embulk run saparibasource-mysql.yml

After running the the Embulk job, find the Salesforce data in the MySQL table.

Load Filtered SAP Ariba Source Data

In addition to loading data directly from a table, you can use a custom SQL query to have more granular control of the data loaded. You can also perform increment loads by setting a last updated column in a SQL WHERE clause in the query field.
