Connect to SAS xpt Data from Blazor Apps

Blazor is a framework for developing modern, client-side web UIs using .NET technology. Instead of coding in JavaScript, developers can use the familiar C# language and .NET libraries to build app UIs.

The CData ADO.NET Provider for SASxpt can be used with standard ADO.NET interfaces, such as LINQ and Entity Framework, to interact with live SAS xpt data. Since Blazor supports .NET Core, developers can use CData ADO.NET Providers in Blazor apps. In this article, we will guide you to build a simple Blazor app that talks to SAS xpt using standard SQL queries.

Install the CData ADO.NET Provider for SASxpt

CData ADO.NET Providers allow users to access SAS xpt just like they would access SQL Server, using simple SQL queries.

Install the SAS xpt ADO.NET Data Provider from the CData website or from NuGet. Search NuGet for "SAS xpt ADO.NET Data Provider."

Create a SAS xpt-Connected Blazor App

Start by creating a Blazor project that references the CData ADO.NET Provider for SASxpt

1. Create a Blazor project on Visual Studio.

2. From the Solution Explorer, right click Dependencies, then click Add Project Reference.
3. In the Reference Manager, click the Browse button, and choose the .dll file of the installed ADO.NET Provider (e.g. System.Data.CData.SASXpt.dll, typically located at C:\Program Files\CData\CData ADO.NET Provider for SASxpt\lib etstandard2.0).

SELECT SAS xpt Data from the Blazor App

1. Open the Index.razor file from the Project page.
2. In a SASXptConnection object, set the connection string:

   Connecting to Local SASXpt Files

   You can connect to local SASXpt file by setting the URI to a folder containing SASXpt files.

   Connecting to S3 data source

   You can connect to Amazon S3 source to read SASXpt files. Set the following properties to connect:

   • URI: Set this to the folder within your bucket that you would like to connect to.
   • AWSAccessKey: Set this to your AWS account access key.
   • AWSSecretKey: Set this to your AWS account secret key.
   • TemporaryLocalFolder: Set this to the path, or URI, to the folder that is used to temporarily download SASXpt file(s).

   Connecting to Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2

   You can connect to ADLS Gen2 to read SASXpt files. Set the following properties to connect:

   • URI: Set this to the name of the file system and the name of the folder which contacts your SASXpt files.
   • AzureAccount: Set this to the name of the Azure Data Lake storage account.
   • AzureAccessKey: Set this to our Azure DataLakeStore Gen 2 storage account access key.
   • TemporaryLocalFolder: Set this to the path, or URI, to the folder that is used to temporarily download SASXpt file(s).

   For example: URI=C:/folder;

3. The code below creates a simple Blazor app for displaying SAS xpt data, using standard SQL to query SAS xpt just like SQL Server.
