Metabase is an open source data visualization tool that allows users to create interactive dashboards. When paired with CData Connect AI, users can easily create visualizations and dashboards linked to live ServiceNow data. This article describes how to connect to ServiceNow and build a simple visualization using ServiceNow data.
CData Connect provides a pure cloud-to-cloud interface for ServiceNow, allowing you to easily integrate with live ServiceNow data in Metabase β without replicating the data. Connect looks exactly like a SQL Server database to Metabase and uses optimized data processing out of the box to push all supported SQL operations (filters, JOINs, etc) directly to ServiceNow, leveraging server-side processing to quickly return ServiceNow data.
CData simplifies access and integration of live ServiceNow data. Our customers leverage CData connectivity to:
Many users access live ServiceNow data from preferred analytics tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Excel, and use CData solutions to integrate ServiceNow data with their database or data warehouse.
Connectivity to ServiceNow from Metabase is made possible through CData Connect AI. To work with ServiceNow data from Metabase, we start by creating and configuring a ServiceNow connection.
ServiceNow uses the OAuth 2.0 authentication standard. To authenticate using OAuth, register an OAuth app with ServiceNow to obtain the OAuthClientId and OAuthClientSecret connection properties. In addition to the OAuth values, specify the Instance, Username, and Password connection properties.
See the "Getting Started" chapter in the help documentation for a guide on connecting to ServiceNow.
π Configuring a connection (Salesforce is shown)When connecting to Connect AI through the REST API, the OData API, or the Virtual SQL Server, a Personal Access Token (PAT) is used to authenticate the connection to Connect AI. It is best practice to create a separate PAT for each service to maintain granularity of access.
With the connection configured and a PAT generated, you are ready to connect to ServiceNow data from Metabase.
After creating the connection in Connect AI, navigate to your Metabase instance. Use the SQL Server interface to connect to Connect AI.
Once you configure the connection to Connect AI, you can query ServiceNow and build visualizations.
SELECT sys_id, priority FROM incidentπ Collected data (Salesforce is shown).
At this point, you have built a simple visualization from ServiceNow data in Metabase. You can continue to work with live ServiceNow data in Metabase just like you would any SQL Server database.
