Embarcadero RAD Studio provides a development environment for Delphi and C++Builder applications. With the CData ODBC Driver for ServiceNow, you gain access to live ServiceNow data within RAD Studio, abstracting the data into tables, views, and stored procedures that can be used to retrieve ServiceNow data. This article will walk through connecting to ServiceNow and creating a simple VCL application with the Form Designer.
CData simplifies access and integration of live ServiceNow data. Our customers leverage CData connectivity to:
Many users access live ServiceNow data from preferred analytics tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Excel, and use CData solutions to integrate ServiceNow data with their database or data warehouse.
If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (data source name). This is the last step of the driver installation. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.
ServiceNow uses the OAuth 2.0 authentication standard. To authenticate using OAuth, register an OAuth app with ServiceNow to obtain the OAuthClientId and OAuthClientSecret connection properties. In addition to the OAuth values, specify the Instance, Username, and Password connection properties.
See the "Getting Started" chapter in the help documentation for a guide on connecting to ServiceNow.
You can then follow the steps below to use the Data Explorer to create a FireDAC connection to ServiceNow data.
Follow the procedure below to start executing queries to ServiceNow data from a simple VCL application that displays the results of a query in a grid.
Drop a TFDConnection component onto the form and set the following properties:
Drop a TFDQuery component onto the form and set the properties below:
SQL: Click the button in the SQL property and enter a query. For example:
SELECT sys_id, priority FROM incident
Drop a TDataSource component onto the form and set the following property:
Drop a TDBGrid control onto the form and set the following property:
You now have an executable application that displays the results of the SQL Query set in the TFDQuery object.

👁 ServiceNow IconThe ServiceNow ODBC Driver is a powerful tool that allows you to connect with live ServiceNow data, directly from any applications that support ODBC connectivity.
Access ServiceNow data like you would a database - read, write, and update Schedules, Timelines, Questions, Syslogs, etc. through a standard ODBC Driver interface.
