Mode is a collaborative data platform that combines SQL, R, Python, and visual analytics in one place. When paired with CData Connect AI, you get instant, cloud-to-cloud access to SharePoint data for use in data visualizations. This article shows how to connect to SharePoint in Connect AI, connect to SharePoint data in Mode, and create a simple visualization using that data.
CData Connect AI provides a pure cloud-to-cloud interface for SharePoint, allowing you to build data visualizations from live SharePoint data in Mode β without replicating the data to a natively supported database. In order to create visualizations, users write SQL queries to gather data. Using optimized data processing out of the box, CData Connect AI pushes all supported SQL operations (filters, JOINs, etc.) directly to SharePoint, leveraging server-side processing to quickly return the requested SharePoint data.
Accessing and integrating live data from SharePoint has never been easier with CData. Customers rely on CData connectivity to:
Most customers rely on CData solutions to integrate SharePoint data into their database or data warehouse, while others integrate their SharePoint data with preferred data tools, like Power BI, Tableau, or Excel.

Connectivity to SharePoint from Mode is made possible through CData Connect AI. To work with SharePoint data from Mode, we start by creating and configuring a SharePoint connection.
Set the URL property to the base SharePoint site or to a sub-site. This allows you to query any lists and other SharePoint entities defined for the site or sub-site.
The User and Password properties, under the Authentication section, must be set to valid SharePoint user credentials when using SharePoint On-Premise.
If you are connecting to SharePoint Online, set the SharePointEdition to SHAREPOINTONLINE along with the User and Password connection string properties. For more details on connecting to SharePoint Online, see the "Getting Started" chapter of the help documentation
π Configuring a connection (Salesforce is shown)When connecting to Connect AI through the REST API, the OData API, or the Virtual SQL Server, a Personal Access Token (PAT) is used to authenticate the connection to Connect AI. It is best practice to create a separate PAT for each service to maintain granularity of access.
With the connection configured and a PAT generated, you are ready to connect to SharePoint data from Mode.
The steps below outline connecting to CData Connect AI from Mode to create a new SharePoint data source.
Your connection is now available for use in Mode. To connect to additional data sources from your CData Connect AI account, repeat the setup steps above, changing the value for Database for each data source.
To create a visualization in Mode, follow these steps:
SELECT * FROM [SharePoint].[MyCustomList];Click Run. The app now shows the query result: π Showing SQL query result.
We have now created a visualization of SharePoint data in Mode using CData Connect AI!
