Adobe ColdFusion is a web and mobile application development platform. It uses its own scripting language, ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML), to create data-driven websites as well as generate remote services, such as REST.
When ColdFusion is paired with the CData JDBC Driver for SharePoint, you can link your ColdFusion web and mobile applications to operational SharePoint data. This allows for your applications to be more robust and complete. This article details how to use the JDBC driver to create a table populated with SharePoint data from within a ColdFusion markup file.
With built-in optimized data processing, the CData JDBC Driver offers unmatched performance for interacting with live SharePoint data. When you issue complex SQL queries to SharePoint, the driver pushes supported SQL operations, like filters and aggregations, directly to SharePoint and utilizes the embedded SQL engine to process unsupported operations client-side (often SQL functions and JOIN operations). Its built-in dynamic metadata querying allows you to work with and analyze SharePoint data using native data types.
Accessing and integrating live data from SharePoint has never been easier with CData. Customers rely on CData connectivity to:
Most customers rely on CData solutions to integrate SharePoint data into their database or data warehouse, while others integrate their SharePoint data with preferred data tools, like Power BI, Tableau, or Excel.

You will need a JDBC connection string to establish a connection between Coldfusion and SharePoint.
Set the URL property to the base SharePoint site or to a sub-site. This allows you to query any lists and other SharePoint entities defined for the site or sub-site.
The User and Password properties, under the Authentication section, must be set to valid SharePoint user credentials when using SharePoint On-Premise.
If you are connecting to SharePoint Online, set the SharePointEdition to SHAREPOINTONLINE along with the User and Password connection string properties. For more details on connecting to SharePoint Online, see the "Getting Started" chapter of the help documentation
For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the SharePoint JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.
java -jar cdata.jdbc.sharepoint.jarπ Using the built-in connection string designer to generate a JDBC URL (sharepoint is shown.)
After configuring the connection, follow the steps below to add the CData JDBC Driver to ColdFusion's lib directory, add a new data source, test the connection, create a ColdFusion markup file, and, finally, make a real-time connection with SharePoint data and display it in a table written in the ColdFusion Markup Language, or CFML:
cdata.jdbc.sharepoint.jar cdata.jdbc.sharepoint.lic
Note: If you do not copy the .lic file with the jar, you will see a licensing error that indicates you do not have a valid license installed. This is true for both the trial and full versions.
jdbc:sharepoint:User=myuseraccount;Password=mypassword;Auth Scheme=NTLM;URL=http://sharepointserver/mysite;SharePointEdition=SharePointOnPremise;
The following code queries the data source:
<cfquery name="SharePointQuery" dataSource="CDataSharePointJDBC"> SELECT * FROM MyCustomList </cfquery>And a CFTable can be used to quickly output the table in HTML:
<cftable query = "SharePointQuery" border = "1" colHeaders colSpacing = "2" headerLines = "2" HTMLTable maxRows = "500" startRow = "1"> <cfcol header="<b>Name</b>" align="Left" width=2 text="Name"/> <cfcol header="<b>Revenue</b>" align="Left" width=15 text="Revenue"/> ... </cftable>Full code, including the HTML portion is available below:
<html>
<head><title>CData Software | SharePoint MyCustomList Table Demo </title></head>
<body>
<cfoutput>#ucase("SharePoint MyCustomList Table Demo")#</cfoutput>
<cfquery name="SharePointQuery" dataSource="CDataSharePointJDBC">
SELECT * FROM MyCustomList
</cfquery>
<cftable
query = "SharePointQuery"
border = "1"
colHeaders
colSpacing = "2"
headerLines = "2"
HTMLTable
maxRows = "500"
startRow = "1">
<cfcol header="<b>Name</b>" align="Left" width=2 text="Name"/>
<cfcol header="<b>Revenue</b>" align="Left" width=15 text="Revenue"/>
...
</cftable>
</body>
</html>
As a note, the CData JDBC Drivers also support parameterized queries using the cfqueryparam element. For example:
SELECT * FROM Account WHERE name =
