Connect to Snowflake Data in Aqua Data Studio

Access Snowflake data from tools in Aqua Data Studio such as the Visual Query Builder and the Table Data Editor.

The CData JDBC Driver for Snowflake integrates Snowflake data with wizards and analytics in IDEs like Aqua Data Studio. This article shows how to connect to Snowflake data through the connection manager and execute queries.

Getting Started

Create a JDBC Data Source

You can use the connection manager to define connection properties and save them in a new JDBC data source. The Snowflake data source can then be accessed from Aqua Data Studio tools.

In Aqua Data Studio, select Register Server from the Servers menu.
In the Register Server form, select the 'Generic - JDBC' connection.
Enter the following JDBC connection properties:
- Name: Enter a name for the data source; for example, Snowflake.
- Driver Location: Click the Browse button and select the cdata.jdbc.snowflake.jar file, located in the lib subfolder of the installation directory.
- Driver: Enter the Driver's class name, cdata.jdbc.snowflake.SnowflakeDriver.
- URL: Enter the JDBC URL, which starts with jdbc:snowflake: and is followed by a semicolon-separated list of connection properties.
  
  To connect to Snowflake:
  1. Set User and Password to your Snowflake credentials and set the AuthScheme property to PASSWORD or OKTA.
  2. Set URL to the URL of the Snowflake instance (i.e.: https://myaccount.snowflakecomputing.com).
  3. Set Warehouse to the Snowflake warehouse.
  4. (Optional) Set Account to your Snowflake account if your URL does not conform to the format above.
  5. (Optional) Set Database and Schema to restrict the tables and views exposed.
  6. (Optional) If MFA is enabled on your Snowflake account (via Duo Security), set MFACode to the passcode generated by your Duo authenticator app.

  Built-in Connection String Designer
  
  For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Snowflake JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

  Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.
