The CData ODBC driver for SuiteCRM enables access to live data from SuiteCRM under the ODBC standard, allowing you work with SuiteCRM data in a wide variety of BI, reporting, and ETL tools and directly, using familiar SQL queries. This article shows how to use Clear Analytics, a Microsoft Excel Add-In, to connect to SuiteCRM as an ODBC source and create queries, tables, and charts (including PivotTables) based on SuiteCRM data.
If you have not already done so, provide values for the required connection properties in the data source name (DSN). You can use the built-in Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to configure the DSN. This is also the last step of the driver installation. See the "Getting Started" chapter in the help documentation for a guide to using the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure a DSN.
The User and Password properties must be set to valid SuiteCRM user credentials. Additionally, specify the URL to the SuiteCRM application, for example http://suite.crm.com.
Note that retrieving SuiteCRM metadata can be expensive. It is advised that you store the metadata locally as described in the Caching Metadata section of the data provider help documentation.
When you configure the DSN, you may also want to set the Max Rows connection property. This will limit the number of rows returned, which is especially helpful for improving performance when designing reports and visualizations.
You are now ready to create a chart with SuiteCRM data.
With a new data source in Clear Analytics established and a chart created, you are ready to begin analysis of SuiteCRM data. With the ODBC Driver for SuiteCRM and Clear Analytics, you can perform self-service analytics in Excel with live data, directly from SuiteCRM.
