The CData JDBC driver for Tableau CRM Analytics is easy to integrate with Java Web applications. This article shows how to efficiently connect to Tableau CRM Analytics data in Jetty by configuring the driver for connection pooling. You will configure a JNDI resource for Tableau CRM Analytics in Jetty.
Follow the steps below to connect to Salesforce from Jetty.
Enable the JNDI module for your Jetty base. The following command enables JNDI from the command-line:
java -jar ../start.jar --add-to-startd=jndi
Declare the resource and its scope. Enter the required connection properties in the resource declaration. This example declares the Tableau CRM Analytics data source at the level of the Web app, in WEB-INF\jetty-env.xml.
<Configure id='tableaucrmdemo' class="org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <New id="tableaucrmdemo" class="org.eclipse.jetty.plus.jndi.Resource"> <Arg><Ref refid="tableaucrmdemo"/></Arg> <Arg>jdbc/tableaucrmdb</Arg> <Arg> <New class="cdata.jdbc.tableaucrm.TableauCRMDriver"> <Set name="url">jdbc:tableaucrm:</Set> <Set name="OAuthClientId">MyConsumerKey</Set> <Set name="OAuthClientSecret">MyConsumerSecret</Set> <Set name="CallbackURL">http://localhost:portNumber</Set> <Set name="InitiateOAuth">GETANDREFRESH</Set> <Set name="MFACode">YourMFACode</Set> </New> </Arg> </New> </Configure>
Tableau CRM Analytics uses the OAuth 2 authentication standard. Obtain the OAuthClientId and OAuthClientSecret by registering an app with Tableau CRM Analytics.
See the Getting Started section of the Help documentation for an authentication guide.
If the connected Salesforce org has MFA enforcement enabled, set MFACode to the time-based one-time passcode (TOTP) generated by your authenticator app (such as Salesforce Authenticator or Google Authenticator). MFACode applies alongside the standard OAuth flow.
Configure the resource in the Web.xml:
jdbc/tableaucrmdb javax.sql.DataSource Container
You can then access Tableau CRM Analytics with a lookup to java:comp/env/jdbc/tableaucrmdb:
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
DataSource mytableaucrm = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/tableaucrmdb");
The steps above show how to configure the driver in a simple connection pooling scenario. For more use cases and information, see the Working with Jetty JNDI chapter in the Jetty documentation.
