How to Easily Query Typeform Data in OpenOffice Base

Apache OpenOffice Base is a versatile, free database tool that makes connecting and managing data easy. With CData API Driver for ODBC, you can seamlessly integrate and query live Typeform data, bringing real-time insights directly into OpenOffice.

This guide simplifies the setup, showing you how to connect Typeform to OpenOffice Base so you can easily generate reports, analyze trends, and make informed decisions right within your familiar workspace.

Here is an overview of the steps:

1. CONFIGURE: Configure the DSN for Typeform data in the CData API Driver for ODBC, using the required connection properties.
2. CONNECT: Set up the ODBC connection in OpenOffice Base using the configured DSN.
3. IMPORT: Once connected, review the available metadata and tables.
4. CREATE: Create a report based on the queried Typeform data data.

Configure the Typeform DSN Using the CData API Driver for ODBC

To start, configure the DSN (Data Source Name) for Typeform data in your system using the CData API Driver for ODBC. Download and install a 30-day free trial with all the features from here.

Once installed, launch the ODBC Data Source Administrator:

• On Windows: Search for ODBC Data Source Administrator in the Start menu and open the application.
• On Mac: Open Applications, go to Utilities, and select ODBC Manager.
• On Linux: Use the command line to launch ODBC Data Source Administrator or use unixODBC if installed.

Once launched, double-click on the CData Typeform data Source and enter the required values to establish a connection:

Start by setting the Profile connection property to the location of the TypeForm Profile on disk (e.g. C:\profiles\TypeForm.apip). Next, set the ProfileSettings connection property to the connection string for TypeForm (see below).

Authentication to TypeForm uses the OAuth standard.

To authenticate to TypeForm, you must first register and configure an OAuth application with TypeForm here: https://admin.typeform.com/account#/section/tokens. Your app will be assigned a client ID and a client secret which can be set in the connection string. More information on setting up an OAuth application can be found at https://developer.typeform.com/get-started/.

Note that there are several different use scenarios which all require different redirect URIs:

• CData Desktop Applications: CData desktop applications (Sync, API Server, ArcESB) accept OAuth tokens at /src/oauthCallback.rst. The host and port is the same as the default port used by the application. For example, if you use http://localhost:8019/ to access CData Sync then the redirect URI will be http://localhost:8019/src/oauthCallback.rst.
• CData Cloud Applications: CData cloud applications are similar to their desktop counterparts. If you access Connect AI at https://1.2.3.4/ then you should use the redirect https://1.2.3.4/src/oauthCallback.rst.
• Desktop Application: When using a desktop application, the URI https://localhost:33333 is recommended.
• Web Application: When developing a web application using the driver, use your own URI here such as https://my-website.com/oauth.

After setting the following connection properties, you are ready to connect:

• AuthScheme: Set this to OAuth.
• InitiateOAuth: Set this to GETANDREFRESH. You can use InitiateOAuth to manage the process to obtain the OAuthAccessToken.
• OAuthClientId: Set this to the Client Id that is specified in your app settings.
• OAuthClientSecret: Set this to Client Secret that is specified in your app settings.
• CallbackURL: Set this to the Redirect URI you specified in your app settings.

Setup an ODBC Connection in OpenOffice Base

Once you've set up the DSN, it's time to connect to it in OpenOffice Base and start querying data:

• Launch OpenOffice Base and select Database from the home screen.

• In the Database Wizard, choose ODBC from the 'Connect to an existing database' option and click Next.

• Click Browse to locate and select the DSN you created, then click OK.

• Enter the username associated with the DSN, click Test Connection to verify, and then click Next.

• Finally, click Finish to save the new database file to your desired directory. This will connect OpenOffice Base to your live Typeform data data, ready for querying and analysis.

Review the Metadata and Tables

After the database file is created and the connection is established, the table list will automatically display all available Typeform data objects.

• Review the Typeform data Object List: In the left pane, click on Tables to view the Typeform data objects now available within OpenOffice Base.
• View Object Data: Click on any object to view its contents. The Typeform data data will display directly within OpenOffice Base, allowing you to review records and fields with ease.

Create a Report

• Open your database and go to the Reports tab, then select Create Report Using Wizard.
