The CData ODBC Driver for YouTube Analytics enables you to link to YouTube Analytics data in Microsoft Power Query, ensuring that you see any updates. This article details how to use the ODBC driver to import YouTube Analytics data into Microsoft Power Query.
If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (data source name). This is the last step of the driver installation. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.
YouTube Analytics uses the OAuth authentication standard. You can use the embedded CData OAuth credentials or you can register an application with Google to obtain your own.
In addition to the OAuth values, to access YouTube Analytics data set ChannelId to the Id of a YouTube channel. You can obtain the channel Id in the advanced account settings for your channel. If not specified, the channel of the currently authenticated user will be used.
If you want to generate content owner reports, specify the ContentOwnerId property. This is the Id of the copyright holder for content in YouTube's rights management system. The content owner is the person or organization that claims videos and sets their monetization policy.
Follow the steps below to import YouTube Analytics data using standard SQL:
From the ribbon in Excel, click Power Query -> From Other Data Sources -> From ODBC.
Provider=MSDASQL.1;Persist Security Info=False;DSN=CData YouTubeAnalytics Source
Enter the SELECT statement to import data with. For example:
SELECT Snippet_Title, ContentDetails_ItemCount FROM Groups👁 The ODBC connection string and SELECT query. (Salesforce is shown.)
Enter credentials, if required, and click Connect. The results of the query are displayed in the Query Editor Preview. You can combine queries from other data sources or refine the data with Power Query formulas. To load the query to the worksheet, click the Close and Load button.
