Civil Infrastructure Platform: Industrial Grade Linux
We create and evolve industrial grade Linux for long living products in civil infrastructure and industrial automation.
Our mission is commonly filling functional gaps, and improving the non-functional features, such as security and real-time support. Furthermore, we commonly extend hardware support for the aforementioned domains and we share efforts in super-long-term maintenance of the Linux kernel and selected packages. Domains include:
Transportation (Trains and Railway Infrastructure)
Power Generation and Power Distribution
Management of Buildings and Cities
Communication Systems
Industrial Control and Supervision
Healthcare Equipment
Hitachi's mission is to contribute to society through the development of superior, original technology and products. Thus, Hitachi has a long history of contributions that help provide society’s infrastructure such as power, water, urban and transport systems which require both safety and reliability. The aim of the Civil Infrastructure Platform (CIP) is to provide a platform which satisfies these needs, and we believe that it will become a common, global platform through which we can achieve an even more comfortable and efficient society.

Linux Kernel & Core Packages
The Civil Infrastructure Platform project (CIP) provides Super-Long-Term Stable (SLTS) kernels with a maintenance period of ten years. This is done in close collaboration with the Linux kernel community.
Security / IEC-62443-4-1/4-2
The CIP Security Working Group (SWG), along with other CIP working group members, has focused on establishing a secure development process and enhancing security capabilities within CIP.
Automated System Updates
Automated system update for embedded devices in fields is more important year by year due to the necessity of continuous vulnerability fixes, enhancing functionality, etc.
