Sports injuries can affect more than performance. They can limit work, training, sleep, confidence, and everyday movement. By the end of this course, learners will understand how common athletic injuries develop, how to recognize key patterns of pain and dysfunction, and how targeted sports massage techniques can support recovery, mobility, and improved function.
Led by Stuart Hinds, soft-tissue therapist to four Australian Olympic teams, this course brings elite-level sports medicine experience into a clear and practical format. Learners are introduced to treatment approaches for common conditions including ITB syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, lateral elbow strains, shin splints, and biceps and pec minor strains. Through step-by-step demonstrations, learners explore deep stroking massage, trigger point therapy, cupping, taping concepts, dry needling considerations, and clinical reasoning for selecting the right approach. Massage, bodywork, sports, and fitness professionals will gain practical tools for treating common injuries, while general learners will better understand how soft-tissue care may support pain relief and recovery. This course offers a practical framework for improving movement, reducing compensation, and supporting better outcomes.
Treating Common Sports Injuries provides a practical and insight-driven framework for understanding how soft-tissue injuries develop and how to manage them effectively in clinical practice. Drawing on extensive real-world experience, the course explains the key classifications of sports injuriesβdirect versus indirect, sprains versus strains, and the full spectrum of muscle-tear gradesβwhile highlighting the clinical uncertainty that often surrounds mild injuries and βpseudo tears.β Learners are guided through the concept of irritability, one of the most important determinants of treatment choice and intensity, and shown how to recognise mild, moderate, and severe presentations. The course also explores the biomechanics of overload and overuse injuries, tendon reactivity, chronic tendinopathy, neural adaptation, and how changes in training frequency, intensity, and type contribute to injury risk. By the end, therapists will be able to assess injuries more accurately, plan safer interventions, and support athletes through evidence-based recovery and performance progression.
