AI and Privacy

Companies shouldn't violate user privacy to develop AI. State and federal lawmakers should pass strong, comprehensive privacy legislation that minimizes the amount of personal data that companies (including AI companies) collect, use, retain, and disclose – including information used as training data for generative AI models. As companies rush to collect AI training data and deploy privacy-invasive AI features, strong privacy legislation is needed to protect users. Additionally, people expect their interactions with chatbots to be private and protected from unlawful law enforcement demands. AI companies have a responsibility to their users to resist unlawful bulk surveillance requests and to require a warrant for data access.

EFF fights for comprehensive privacy laws that will establish and enhance every user's right to control their data, on every platform or service.
