Walmart Interview Experience | SDE-2 | Full-Time

I got the chance to participate in Walmart's Hiring Process for SDE-2 via referral. First and foremost, I had to take a Coding Test consisting of 25 Multiple Choice Questions and 2 Coding Questions that tested my DSA skills. The multiple choice questions comprised a variety of topics including basics of Java, OOPs, OS, and other Computer Science Fundamentals. The coding questions ranged from easy to medium. The first one was a brute force, while the second was supposed to be solved using graphs.

After clearing the Coding Test, a series of interview rounds were held over Zoom. Following are the details about the same:

Round 1

• Small introduction and discussion over preferred language and its pros and cons. (My preferred language was C++ while the role was Java-extensive)
• Convert String to Integer without using any default functions.
• Check the validity of a password. (The interviewer provided conditions)

Round 2

• Introduction followed by a detailed discussion over projects from Resume and Summer Internship.
• Find the largest odd number in a string.
• Search element in an array which is strictly increasing up to a point and then strictly decreasing.
• Difference between Call by Value and Call by Reference for example, indexing in DBMS, B+ trees, writing an SQL query based on given conditions, internal working of an array, difference between array and lists.

Round 3 (HR Round)

• Introduction and discussion over Resume.
• Given several cricket teams, write a query to generate all possible combinations so that all teams can play a match with every other team.
• Print the order of a burning binary tree starting from a given target node.
• How will you approach a project in case you don't know its prerequisites?
• How will you handle a situation in which your manager keeps asking you to change the project design?

Tip: Be honest and confident throughout the interview. Do not hesitate to ask mindful and necessary questions from the interviewer. Try to understand the question and all the edge cases before rushing towards coding it, and keep communicating with your interviewer about your approach and thought process. Be thorough with your resume, specially projects.
