Dread Kong is a large, intimidating Kong, a member of the Kong boss group, and the king of the first world of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, the Banana Kingdom. He is fought in VS. Dread Kong and has 500 health points. Dread Kong has brown and gray fur, dreadlocks (from which his name is derived), and a build and face similar to Donkey Kong's.
During the battle against him, Dread Kong attacks slowly by punching, giving Donkey Kong plenty of time to avoid his attacks and counter. In the original Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Dread Kong's punches do ten deals of damage each, while in the enhanced New Play Control! port for the Wii, they do 100 deals of damage. Donkey Kong can also get two punches on the boss before he prepares to attack. When Dread Kong is at 300 health points or lower, he becomes angry and attacks faster. Additionally, Dread Kong avoids all punches until Donkey Kong successfully dodges one. Throughout the entire fight, if Donkey Kong attacks Dread Kong right when he is about to punch, he can uppercut the boss and stun him, allowing for many punches.
Dread Kong later appears in the ending ceremony, where he and the other Kong bosses celebrate Donkey Kong's victory over the Ghastly King.
In the pre-release version of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, a villainous, gray-furred Donkey Kong with glowing red pupils was fought instead of Dread Kong.
An unused trophy of Dread Kong appears in the game files for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.[1]
