Heat Stroke

Heat Stroke is a 1-vs.-3 minigame found in Mario Party 5 and Mario Party: The Top 100. It is the only minigame in which the song "Danger Abounds" plays.

Overview[edit]

The minigame is set in outer space, and players are over a sun-like star, with a tall stack of disc-like platforms. The team is situated on these discs, while the solo player, suspended by balloons, is given a hammer to knock the platforms away one at a time. When the solo player knocks a platform away, the trio must jump to avoid going offscreen with it. The team can ground-pound, but doing so serves as a hindrance and a way for the solo player to punish players recovering from the animation. The solo player can also fake the swing, tricking the team players into jumping too soon. Team players can counter this by paying attention not to the swinging solo player but if their ground moves. Team players can also short hop to minimize air time so they have more time to react against a fake out swing. A team player is eliminated if they go offscreen with a platform or fall onto the sun-like star. Over time, Lava Bubbles fall, knocking out any team player who touches them. The solo player wins if they knock out all three team players. The team players win if any survive for 30 seconds and/or get to the final platform.

In Mario Party 5, the solo player's hammer disappears. If the solo player wins, they wave at the screen. If the team of three wins, the solo player's balloons pop, making them fall and get burned by the sun-like star, while the players of the team of three remaining do their winning poses.

Naming[edit]

The minigame's name comes from the name of a medical condition in which someone's body temperature is dangerously high. "Stroke" also refers to the motion the solo player makes removing the platform.
