Tire stacks appear as a type of obstacle in the Mario Kart series. They are first featured in Mario Kart 8 and its port, in GBA Mario Circuit and GCN Yoshi Circuit. Tire stacks also appear in the latter in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass in 3DS Toad Circuit and GCN Waluigi Stadium. In those games, the tires in the stacks have M-shaped treads and can appear in black, white or red stacks, as well as standalone, placed on the sides of the track. When hit at low speeds tire stacks act as solid barriers, but when hit at higher speeds, individual tires get knocked around, out of the pile, and potentially into the way of drivers. After being moved, individual tires despawn after around 10 seconds. If driven at during a boost, they are knocked further away and immediately despawn. After all tires from a pile have despawned, the pile respawns at its original place.

Tire stacks are featured more prominently in Mario Kart World, appearing in Mario Bros. Circuit, Wario Stadium, Peach Stadium, and Mario Circuit, although only black tires with brick-shaped treads appear. In this game, tires can be moved more easily by drivers at slower speeds, and they bounce around more. Giant red, yellow and black tires stacked in piles in the background of Wario Stadium as well.
