1. If you are looking for old BIOS, floppy disk or CD support, we recommend using MemTest86 V4 which is still available for download under 'Older Versions'. While booting from a CD is still technically possible, the CD/DVD ISO Image remains available for download. However, is not recommended or supported as USB boot is preferable.^
2. Secure Boot is a feature in UEFI that only allows drivers and applications that are signed with an acceptable signature to run on the system. Most systems implement Microsoft Secure Boot, which only allows applications/drivers signed with a Microsoft signature to load properly.^
3. The keyboard now works on systems that fail to emulate IO Port 64/60 correctly. So Mac USB keyboards are now supported.^
4. MemTest86 attempts to retrieve the memory settings configured in the BIOS, for a limited number of supported chipsets. Otherwise, MemTest86 shall report the configured memory settings stored in the SMBIOS (which may be inaccurate). The following chipsets are currently supported:^
5. DIMM and Chip decoding allows the a memory address with an error to be decoded to a physical hardware location (memory slot and silicon chip). Currently only available for selected hardware configurations.^
6. Test #11 and Test #12 in the software. These are tests using the CPU's SSE/Neon instructions to read and write 64bit and 128bits of data at a time from the RAM.^
7. MemTest86 support up to 16 cores in the Free version and 512 for the Pro version. Note: The Free version will still work on higher core count CPUs, but will only use the first 16 cores.^
8. ECC reporting is currently not supported for ARM systems.^
9. ECC error injection is a feature that simulates ECC errors in order to test the system's error handling mechanism. The following chipsets may support this feature but may be disabled (depending on your BIOS configurations):^
10. Where supported by the hardware.^
11. Configuration file allows memory test settings to be pre-defined without the need for keyboard input. This can help with automation.^
12. Support for memory error triggering and logging for logic analyzers such as Logic Analyzer Keysight U4164A. Memory errors trigger a write to a pre-defined memory address, allowing a more comprehensive hardware-based tracing and memory analysis.^
13. Support for KingTiger's iMS functionality, which will allow bad RAM addresses to be localized and removed from service, possibly fixing memory errors caused by defective RAM sticks.^
14. You need to purchase 1 license per machine that is running the software. Please see the licensing page to determine how many licenses are required.^
15. Site Edition covers an unlimited number of users within a single organization in a single country.^
