Barry George was convicted of the murder of TV presenter Jill Dando - only to have his conviction overturned seven years later

Jill Dando was shot dead outside her flat in Fulham, London, on April 26, 1999. Barry George, who lived in the same area, was arrested on suspicion of her murder the following year.

He was convicted of the killing in 2001 and sentenced to life in prison. He launched several appeals, finally having his conviction overturned following a retrial in 2008.
