He married childhood sweetheart Coleen McLoughlin in 2008 with whom he's had four children. After the 2014 World Cup, he was named as England's new captain. Having become record scorer for both United and the Three Lions, he rejoined Everton in 2017 before moving to DC United a year later. In 2020 he joined Derby County as player-coach.
