Belgian artist Charles Samuel married French pianist Clotilde Kleeberg (1866-1909) and his second marriage was to the painter and sculptor Juliette Blum. He studied engraving, sculpture, and medal-making. Early in his career he was trained to be a jeweler but changed direction when he studied to be a sculptor at the Royal Belgium Academy in Bruxelles. Around 1890 he stayed in Italy and in 1905 he built a studio at Ixelles. Samuel was a sculptor, graphic artist and medalist and worked in stone, marble, bronze, and wood. He created numerous monuments and building sculptures. He exhibited widely including at the Paris Salon and the Ghent Salon, earning much critical success, and winning several awards.
