Biography

Ray Havemeyer was the grandson of William Havemeyer, a three-time mayor of New York City, and the son of Theodore A. Havemeyer, the first President of the US Golf Association. Ray played in the 1903 US Amateur, losing in round one.

Ray graduated from Sheffield Scientific School at Yale in 1905. During World War I, Havemeyer served as a Chief Petty Officer with the Naval Reserve. He died from pneumonia. His brother, Art Havemeyer, also played in the 1904 Olympic golf tournament.
