Biography

Henry Murray, a New Zealand national, was one of the first three New Zealand Olympians when he competed in the 110 and 400 metres hurdles at the Olympic Games in 1908 on an Australasian team. Murray won the New Zealand 440 yards hurdles title from 1905 until 1910 and the Australasian title in Hobart in 1908. An architect, he served in World War I as an engineer with the Australian Imperial Force and won the Military Cross for gallantry in France. He was commissioned in the Royal New Zealand Air Force in World War II and died as the result of a motor vehicle accident while training in New Zealand.
