Basketball player Franklin Standard played in multiple international tournaments for the Cuban national team in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Standard participated at two Olympic Games; 1968 Mexico City and 1972 München, winning bronze at the latter with a 66–65 victory against Italy. Prior to the München Olympics he won silver at the 1970 Central American and Caribbean Games and bronze at the 1971 Pan American Games. Standard had further success at the Central American and Caribbean Games when he was part of the gold medal winning team at the 1974 edition in Santo Domingo. Following his playing career he worked as a coach in Cuba before eventually becoming the coach of the Botswana national team in 2005.
