Esko Luostarinen

Born in Vyborg in 1935, Esko Luostarinen started out as a bandy player before becoming one of the greats of Finnish ice hockey. For most of his career Luostarinen played for Tappara in Tampere, winning four Finnish titles with the team (1955, 1959, 1961, 1964). For his final two seasons he represented Lahden Reipas in Lahti before retiring in 1966. He also had a long career with the national team that saw him play in 93 matches, including competing at five World Cups and two Olympic Games. At the 1960 Squaw Valley Games he played in six matches and scored five goals, but failed to score at the Innsbruck Games four years later. After his retirement Luostarinen became an ice hockey coach and was later inducted into the Hall of Fame at Tappara.
