This was the largest class of the 1908 Olympic wrestling competition. Gustaf Malmström (SWE) was European champion in 1907 at 75 kg, and he would win again in 1909 at 67 kg. At London, he lost in the quarter-finals to the Italian Enrico Porro. Porro went on to win the gold medal. He competed at the Olympics again, in both 1920 and 1924, failing to medal both times. However, none of the three medalists ever competed at a World or European championship.
