Three boxers competed in the featherweight class. Frank Haller defeated Fred Gilmore in the first round, but then lost a decision to Oliver Kirk in the final. Haller had a 10 lb (4 kg) weight advantage over Kirk, and had a dayβs rest after the semi-final, whilst Kirk had also won the gold medal in the bantamweight class earlier in the day. In an even contest, Kirkβs superior speed was the deciding factor. Kirk is the only Olympic boxer ever to win two gold medals at one Olympic Games. The 1904 AAU Champion was T. F. Fitzpatrick but he was not entered in the Olympics.
