Competing in her first Olympics, China’s Wei Meng, won the qualification round, where six shooters went through to the final. Italian Diana Bacosi, the 2013 skeet world champion beat her teammate and 2008 Olympic champion Chiara Cainero with 15 hits to 14 (out of 16 shots) in the gold medal match. Defending champion Kim Rhode, won the bronze medal after a close battle with Wei, and became the first Olympian to win an individual medal at six consecutive Summer Games. Italian luger Armin Zöggeler is the only Winter Olympian with the same record. The 36-year-old Rhode won her first World Championship title in the double trap event in 1992, aged only 13.
