The Star class, a two-person keelboat, had been added to the Olympic Programme in 1932, and would remain on it through 2012, although it was left off in 1972 and 1976. The German team, aboard “Wannsee”, won five races, winning the first, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh races to capture the gold medal. They had clinched the gold medal after the sixth race. The Swedish crew, racing “Sunshine”, won the second race and led the competition briefly, but eventually fell back to the silver medal position.
