Microsoft announced today that Fedora Linux is now treated as an official distribution within their Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) confines.

With the recently released Fedora 42, WSL images using Windows Subsystem for Linux's new Tar-based architecture are being created and maintained. Microsoft has promoted Fedora Linux to now being an official WSL distribution. This work was previously covered within Fedora 42 Cleared To Ship WSL Images For Easy Windows Subsystem For Linux Use.

Those running Windows 11 with WSL2 support can now simply run wsl –-install FedoraLinux-42 to install and then wsl –d FedoraLinux-42 to run Fedora 42 within this Microsoft environment.
