All of the big SoC and DeviceTree board updates have been submitted for the Linux 6.16 kernel including support for a number of new Arm SoCs as well as a RISC-V server SoC. Plus many new board additions, including continued work on bettering the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite/Plus laptop support under Linux.

There are 11 newly supported SoCs with the mainline Linux 6.16 kernel. The newly-added SoCs include the Rockchip RK3562, the NXP i.MX94, Renesas RZ/V2N (R9A09G056), Amlogic S6 / S7 / S7D, Samsung Exynos 7870, WonderMedia WM8950, Allwinner A523, Qualcomm MSM8926, and Qualcomm Snapdragon X1P42100.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon X1P42100 is exciting in that it's the Snapdragon X Plus 8-core SoC to complement all the ongoing work around the Snapdragon X Elite laptops on Linux.

When it comes to The Snapdragon X laptop support, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s now enables external DisplayPort support and the T14s has also added the OLED display variant. The Dell XPS 13 9345 is also enabling external DisplayPort with Linux 6.16. The x1e001de Developer Kit has also enabled support now for both of its USB Type-A ports. The ASUS Vivobook S15 meanwhile is enabling its USB-A ports, micro-SD card reader, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Another newly-enabled Snapdragon X Elite laptop is the HP EliteBook Ultra G1q. See that article as well to know about the support caveats.

Meanwhile there are 24 new boards added, albeit a dozen of them are for the TI K3 series chips, another 10 for Rockchip RK35xx/PX30 designs, 10 NXP iMX8/iMX9 industrial/embedded board designs, and other boards for reference designs and other less consumer-facing products.

Some of the other changes for the SoC pull requests in Linux 6.16 include retiring of the TI DaVinci DA830 SoC platform and other driver updates.

Over in the RISC-V space, Linux 6.16 is enabling support for the Sophgo SG2044 SoC. This is the second-generation Sophgo RISC-V server processor with 64-cores.

See these pull requests for the many SoC and board updates for the Linux 6.16 kernel.
