Rav1e v0.8 Released For Rust-Based AV1 Encoding
Rav1e v0.8 was released on Monday for this self-proclaimed "fastest and safest AV1 encoder" that makes use of the Rust programming language.
The previous big release was Rav1e v0.7 in late 2023. Now Rav1e v0.8 has arrived and comes with many changes given the year and a half since the prior release.
On x86_64 CPUs at least the Rav1e encoder in my tests still comes up short of the SVT-AV1 video encoder, but at least with making use of the Rust programming language is more focused on encoder security and memory safety. These days GPU-accelerated AV1 encoding is also becoming more common.
In any event for those interested Rav1e v0.8 can be downloaded from GitHub for those interested in this latest work on this premier Rust-based, multi-platform AV1 encoder.
