Red Hat Releases Second Developer Preview Of RHEL 10 For RISC-V

Last year when releasing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.0, Red Hat announced a RHEL 10.0 developer preview for RISC-V. Since then that RISC-V developer preview hadn't been updated but now Red Hat has published a new developer preview snapshot based on RHEL 10.2.

Red Hat announced today RHEL 10.2 for RISC-V is now available in developer preview form, 13 months after their original release. This second developer preview contains additional upstream code to benefit the SiFive HiFive Premier P550 and other incremental updates for improving Linux on RISC-V.

The SiFive HiFive Premier P550 remains the primary test vehicle used by Red Hat for the RHEL 10 RISC-V images but some community members are reporting success with StarFive JH7110 and UltraRISC DP1000 based hardware too as well as when using QEMU emulation.

No further word on when RHEL for RISC-V may be promoted beyond "developer preview" form with Red Hat simply stating today that "Red Hat continues to monitor and support the growth of the RISC-V ecosystem." If all goes well, I'd bet that official RISC-V support becomes one of the prominent changes with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 11.0.
