Updated Steam Client Beta For Linux Fixes Slow Install Speeds For Updates

Written by Michael Larabel in Valve on 2 June 2025 at 08:27 PM EDT. 10 Comments
One day after Steam on Linux set a recent high with the Steam Survey, a new Steam client beta is out today to fix an excruciating annoyance affecting some Linux gamers.

Besides a number of other random fixes to the Steam client as well as SteamVR and Steam Overlay and Big Picture modes, there is also one Linux-specific fix worth mentioning. Valve has fixed a case where the Steam client update installation could take minutes to complete when in reality it should be complete within a few seconds.
"Improved steam client update installation speed. In some pathological cases this operation could take minutes to complete, when the expected completion time is seconds."

This improved Steam Linux client update installation speed is rolled out with today's Steam client beta.
