Steam On Linux Ends 2025 With 3.19% Marketshare, AMD Linux CPU Use Approaches 72%
The Steam Survey results for December have the Linux gaming marketshare at 3.19%, or just a 0.01% compared to the month prior. That's still much better than year-over-year when for December 2024 it was at 2.29% or below 2% for December 2023. If more Steam users were active in general thanks to the year-end holidays or for taking advantage of winter sale discounts, Steam on Linux at 3.19% still may be similar or larger in absolute terms than November.

The increasing Steam on Linux growth continues to be driven by the Steam Deck with Steam OS.

Driven in large part by the Steam Deck being powered by a custom AMD APU and AMD on Linux being quite popular for their open-source driver support, AMD CPU use among Linux gamers is at 71.93% That's an all time high and a 5.2% increase over November. Meanwhile under Steam on Windows, AMD has a 47.27% CPU marketshare.

Going by the "AMD AMD Custom GPU 0405" having a 21.4% marketshare among GPUs under Linux, which is the GPU found within the Steam Deck APU, points to likely around a fifth of Linux gamers being from the Steam Deck.
