Wayland Protocols 1.48 is out today with the long-awaited XDG Session Management protocol in tow as well as several new experimental protocols.

XDG Session Management was recently merged after in discussion for years and now part of Wayland Protocols 1.48. XDG Session Management allows clients to restore previous window setups, including window positioning and window state. This long sought-after protocol is finally here for improving the modern Linux desktop experience.

Wayland Protocols 1.48 also has updates to the text input protocol for resolving various issues that came up over the years. And then there are also new experimental protocols for xx-cutouts, xx-zones, and xx-keyboard-filter. The experimental zones support can allow for some nifty features and again took a few years to come together.

The keyboard filter protocol allows for a client to intercept selected keyboard events and to prevent them from reaching the focused surface.

Wayland Protocols 1.48 can be downloaded from FreeDesktop.org GitLab.
