Zed Editor Rolls Out Native Git Integration

Written by Michael Larabel in Programming on 13 March 2025 at 06:24 AM EDT. 23 Comments
The Zed Editor as a modern IDE-focused text editor for programmers and developed by some of the Atom editor creators continues on quite a roll. Over the past year Zed has rolled out native Linux builds, added various AI features and also began open-sourcing its own edit prediction model. For enhancing the developer experience in more basic form, Zed has now added native Git integration.

For speeding up modern Git-based development workflows, Zed has added native Git support. The initial Git integration includes viewing diffs, staging changes, making Git commits, and Git pushes all from within the editor.

This native Git integration is focused on being very fast, can be keyboard-driven, and other extras to provide for a convenient developer experience. This Rust-based editor will next be pursuing other features like conflict resolution in Git and line-by-line staging and more.
