15-Way Linux OS Comparison Shows Mixed High-Performing Linux Distributions

Zenwalk, Sabayon, and Alpine Linux were much slower than the rest in Himeno while the optimized Clear Linux distribution came out barely ahead of Fedora 23 for squeezing a first place finish.

Of course, the optimized distributions with more aggressive compiler flags like Clear Linux will lead to slower compile times.

With the C-Ray multi-threaded ray-tracer test was a situation where Clear Linux, Antergos, and Void Linux was much slower than the rest.

But the optimized Clear Linux distribution did win by a long shot with the Smallpt OpenMP path tracer due to its default CXXFLAGS.
