15-Way Linux OS Comparison Shows Mixed High-Performing Linux Distributions

The older Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS and CentOS 7 enterprise distributions were slower with the FLAC encoding test.

When testing the distributions with available R language packages, Clear Linux 6640 was by far the most performant. Clear Linux packages are built with function multi-versioning (FMV) for allowing newer CPUs to shine and other optimizations to their packages.

Clear Linux continued to shine too (but by a lesser amount) when it came to running a light PostgreSQL database benchmark.

But when loading the PostgreSQL database server with more threads, Ubuntu 15.10/14.04 came out a little bit ahead of Clear Linux.
