With Intel's Embree ray-tracing kernels, the Threadripper 3990X was either meeting or outperforming the dual Xeon Cascade Lake top-end non-AP server. That's quite a feat as with the various Intel software projects, there are extensive optimizations for AVX-512 and catering to other elements of Intel's microarchitectures.
The Threadripper 3990X even showed its potential for image editing/manipulation with the OpenMP-threaded GraphicsMagick program with scaling very nicely.
