AMD 8.37.6 Display Driver

With the X.Org 1.3 fix in 8.37.6, Fedora 7 can now function with the fglrx driver. There is, however, one problem. With Fedora 7 and fglrx 8.37.6, aticonfig crashes and fglrx_drv.so isn't able to load and will just result in a back-trace appearing in your Xorg.0.log. We are still exploring this issue, but the problem is stemming from the closed-source portion of the driver. Stay tuned to the Phoronix Forums for more information or if you run into any other driver issues. The build argument for Fedora 7 with the fglrx driver is --buildpkg Fedora/F7.

Our 8.37.6 driver testing is our last time using Fedora Core 6 for fglrx benchmarking (with the exception of the AMD 2007 Year in Review) and for this we had used a Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB to compare fglrx 8.37 to version 8.36.5. The test system was a Lenovo ThinkPad T60 with an Intel Core 2 Duo T2400 (1.83GHz), 1GB of DDR2-667, and 80GB SATA HDD. Fedora Core 6 was equipped with the Linux 2.6.20 kernel and X.Org 7.1.1. To compare the two AMD fglrx drivers were our traditional Enemy Territory and Quake 4 benchmarks.
