AMD EPYC 4545P Achieves 2.24x The Performance At Half The Power Of The First EPYC CPU

Compiling the default x86_64 Linux kernel was a minute and a half with the old AMD EPYC 7601 Naples flagship but dropped to under 60 seconds with the EPYC 4545P... But what makes the EPYC 4545P really interesting is the impact on CPU power consumption and in turn overall AC server power consumption with the far more efficient processor plus delivering stellar performance with just two DDR5 DIMMs compared to the eight channel DDR4 memory with EPYC Naples.

When compiling the Linux kernel with all possible modules, it took nearly five minutes less per build than it did using the aging EPYC 7601... While on a performance-per-Watt basis this 16-core 65-Watt EPYC Grado processor achieved 2.88x the performance-per-Watt.

If still running on original AMD EPYC 7001 series infrastructure and wanting to upgrade for greater power efficiency and trying to minimize costs, the EPYC 4005 "Grado" series can be particularly compelling with the EPYC 4545P providing 16 x Zen 5 cores at 65 Watts for very affordable server deployments.
