AMD Radeon RX 9070 + RX 9070 XT Linux Performance
First up was Counter-Strike 2 on Linux and unfortunately not ended up being the best showing for the Radeon RX 9070. It became clear right away that there's more Linux driver optimizations needed. The Radeon RX 9070 series at 4K for CS2 was performing similar to the RX 6800 XT and RX 7900 GRE... The Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX were a great deal faster for this popular first person shooter game on Linux.
The RX 9070 XT GPU power consumption on Linux for Counter-Strike 2 was higher than the much faster RX 7900 XTX... Clearly more Linux driver work on RDNA4/GFX12 will come in the days and weeks ahead.
With Grand Theft Auto 5 with maxed quality settings, the Radeon RX 9070 series had a much better showing than in Counter-Strike 2. Here at least with GTA5 the Radeon RX 9070 series was slightly faster than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card. But the NVIDIA Linux GPU performance is much better here in GTA5 with the maxed out visuals.
With the HITMAN game running on Linux via Steam Play it did have a better showing compared to Counter-Strike 2 but not as good as GTA 5 relative to the RX 7900 series. With HITMAN at 4K and ultra quality settings, the Radeon RX 9070 XT matched the prior-gen RX 7900 XT graphics card while the RX 9070 was slower. At least HITMAN via Steam Play on Linux is a game where the Radeon graphics perform extremely well and in turn allowed the RX 9070 series to tango with the GeForce RTX 5080 on Ubuntu Linux.
The Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU power consumption was similar to the Radeon RX 7900 XTX during this HITMAN Linux testing.
