Indeed the Ryzen 7 9850X3D did offer leading performance in the graphics and gaming benchmarks on Linux.

Again the fundamental difference between the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 7 9850X3D is the 400MHz increase to the boost clock frequency for an added "oomph" while gaming or other workloads.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D was delivering the best performance of the processors tested with the GeForce RTX 5090 while running Cyberpunk 2077 on Linux via Valve's Steam Play.

For Linux gaming the entire AMD Ryzen 9000 series line-up was delivering superior performance for Cyberpunk 2077 under Steam Play compared to the flagship Arrow Lake processor, the Core Ultra 9 285K.

For Linux gamers the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D is indeed a great option. With the +400MHz boost clock increase for around ~$30 USD compared to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, it's a nice processor for under $500 USD if 8-cores / 16-threads is sufficient for all of your computing needs.
