👁 AMD RDNA 3.5

RDNA 3.5 is updated RDNA3 graphics found with the Ryzen AI 300 series. RDNA 3.5 pushes RDNA3 to greater power efficiency for benefiting forthcoming laptops.

👁 AMD RDNA 3.5 power efficiency improvements

Very exciting power efficiency gains are talked up for RDNA 3.5. Will be very interesting to see how the performance and power efficiency stacks up under Linux. The RDNA 3.5 Linux support should be largely squared away on the latest Mesa and Linux kernel releases. Linux 6.10+ and Mesa 24.2 should be good base points for RDNA 3.5 graphics. Again, I'll have Linux benchmarks up when the time comes.

With the Ryzen AI 300 series also comes a much more capable NPU built atop AMD's XDNA 2 architecture. This next-gen NPU is rated for 50 TOPS and features 32 AI engine tiles.

👁 AMD Strix Point advantage

The XDNA 2 NPU is rated for up to 5x the compute capacity and up to 2x the power efficiency over the Ryzen 7040 series.

👁 AMD XDNA 2 efficiency

There is the XDNA Linux driver that AMD open-sourced earlier this year but the timing on the XDNA 2 NPU support isn't clear as of writing. The XDNA Linux driver also remains out-of-tree with it not being clear yet when AMD will attempt to mainline this accelerator driver. Long story short, the XDNA Linux story is still unfolding and will likely be some months still before there's a compelling AMD NPU story for Linux users. 👁 AMD XDNA 2 performance

👁 AMD Zen 5 generation processors

That's the brief overview of Zen 5 powered Ryzen 9000 series and Ryzen AI 300 series processors. Stay tuned for the real exciting element of looking at the support and performance under Linux of these next-gen AMD wares. These new AMD products sound very exciting but as usual I look forward to stressing them thoroughly under Linux for seeing more real-world performance and power efficiency numbers outside of the Microsoft Windows confines focused on during the AMD Tech Day.
