With the old OpenArena 0.8.5 game, the performance of the AMD open-source driver was between where it was performing in Doom 3 and Nexuiz. For the Radeon HD 6450, the Catalyst driver was multiple times faster while with mid and high-end graphics cards the Gallium3D driver was about 60% the speed of AMD's official binary blob.

For the newer OpenArena 0.8.8 that is no longer using fixed-function OpenGL, the open-source performance was about 80% that of the closed-source driver.
