Final Benchmarks Of Clear Linux On Intel: ~48% Faster Than Ubuntu Out-Of-The-Box
With some of the OpenJDK Java workloads that are common to Linux servers, Clear Linux led the race. Ubuntu 25.04 when switching to the performance governor was able to be competitive in many of the tests with both of these Linux distributions using OpenJDK Java 21. Some of the Java results show how silly the schedutil or powersave default can be for Linux servers...
But for the more demanding Java workloads, Clear Linux came out ahead of Ubuntu 25.04 even when it switched to using the performance governor.
While using the performance governor led to higher power use for this dual Xeon Max Supermicro server, Clear Linux could still deliver the best performance-per-Watt over Ubuntu Linux.
Clear Linux also showed for H.264 video encoding with Kvazaar that it could deliver greater performance over Ubuntu 25.04 while at the same time delivering the best performance-per-Watt on this Intel Xeon Max server.
With AV1 and H.266 video encoding too, Clear Linux came out ahead of Ubuntu 25.04 in both performance and performance-per-Watt. Schedutil/powersave governors are notorious for the video encode workloads with their significant performance hits.
