The Performance Of Clear Linux With GCC 8

The FFTE performance improved slightly on six of the seven systems. To some surprise though, the Xeon Silver 4108 performance effectively dropped off a cliff. The Xeon Silver 4108 was the only test system with AVX-512 support of these systems tested, so that seems perhaps the possible explanation due to AVX-512 changes in GCC 8.

The C-written SciMark2 test that tends to show off compiler performance changes quite often showed small but consistent performance improvements across all seven systems.

The AVX-heavy Himeno pressure solver test was showing tiny performance improvements on all hardware tested except for the Core i7 7700K performance pulling back.

While the 7-Zip performance appears slightly lower with the newer compiler stack on all of the Intel systems tested.
