AMD EPYC 9005 Brings Incredible Performance To The Cloud With Amazon M8a Benchmarks
Starting off with the common Nginx HTTPS web server, the M8a performance more than doubled over the M7a! Just for one generation improvement... 5th Gen AMD EPYC came out stomping.
Needless to say, even with the 9 cent per hour increase over M7a, the performance-per-dollar out of the M8a was much better than M7a for Nginx.
Apache Cassandra was one of the benchmarks featured by AWS last week when announcing the general availability of M8a. AWS cited a 39% generational improvement with M8a. Indeed with my own benchmarks I hit a 38.6% improvement, right inline with AWS claims.
This also leads to Apache Cassandra having a nice value advantage with M8a over M7a.
The new PostgreSQL 18 database server was performing exceptionally well on the M8a instance compared to the prior-generation M7a.
